Lawhon named to North All-Star team

Taylor's pitching ace, Braeden Lawhon, has been selected to play for the North team in the Austin Area Baseball Coaches Association All-Star game.

The game will be played Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Dell Diamond.

Lawhon will team up with rival Jeremy Kerley from Hutto, who was named to the team as an outfielder.

“It's an honor to be chosen for that since you have to be nominated for it,” Lawhon said. “I really appreciate it.”

All-Star games can open up doors for players that might have fallen through the cracks during the regular season. The majority of players that sign letters of intent in February are from large 4A and 5A schools. College coaches then study film or hit the road to scout smaller-school players in order to fill holes in their rosters.

Lawhon says he would love to play college ball and hopes he can turn heads on Sunday.

“Of course thats what I'm trying to do. I really want to play somewhere, I haven't had a lot of contact, but hopefully someone will be there and see something that they like.”

Lawhon pitched in some big games for Taylor this past season and he credited the Ducks coaching staff for helping him develop into the player he is today.

“I've progressed so much in the last four years,” Lawhon said of his time playing for coach Doug Kuhl and assistant coach Kenny Cmerek. “I've learned the most baseball in my life over the last four years. They've been there off and on the field, I'm real close with both of those guys.”

Coach Kuhl has also picked up a post season honor, he will coach the 3A team at the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association All-Star game at the Dell Diamond June 16.
