Express provide fireworks on and off the field

The Express lost their third straight game to the Nashville Sounds Monday, taking a 4-3 result.

The two teams combined for 19 hits in a game that took 11 innings to decide the winner.

The game went to extra innings tied 1-1, but both teams added two runs in the 10th inning.

In the top of the 10th, Danny Klassen gave Round Rock a short-lived lead with a two run homer with two outs.

Sounds clean up batter Joe Dillon answered with a two run homer of his own off of Express reliever Travis Driskill.

The tying home run took, the wind out of the Express sails as Vinny Rottino hit an RBI single down the left field line in the top of the 11th inning to give the Sound their third extra innings win of the year.

In the series finale Tuesday, the Express bounced back with a pair of two run innings early in the game that led to a 10-4 victory.

Jason Lane had a season-high three hits and four RBIs to lead the way for the Express while five other players had multi-hit nights.

Starting pitcher Jared Gothreaux gave up two early runs but settled in to allow just four runs over six and two thirds innings.

Sounds starting pitcher Chris Oxspring didn't fare as well. He gave up five runs on nine hits in just over three innings.

The Express had seven different players with RBIs in the much needed win.

Wednesday the Express returned to the Dell Diamond for a five-game series against the Omaha Royals.

The series started with a game full of fire works, ending in a 9-8 win for Round Rock by way of a Humberto Quintero home run in the eighth inning.

The Express had 10 hits with two doubles and two home runs in the win.

Closer Stephen Randolph gave up a solo home run in the top of the ninth but he was able to shut the Royals down to maintain the win.

The Express finally get a three day break next week after 19 straight games.
