By SCOTT JOINER The Taylor Ducks baseball team keeps reeling in the honors after winning the District 18-3A crown this past spring. Lead off hitter J.D. Kaspar was named to the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association All-State First Team after finishing the year as one of the best clutch hitters in the state. Kaspar also received honorable mention at second base on the Texas Sports Writer's Association All-State team. He finished the year with a .417 batting average and had 16 RBI and 30 hits in 72 at bats. Catcher Noah Brinkmeyer also received honorable mention on the Texas Sports Writer's Association All-State team after a solid year behind the plate. Brinkmeyer never shied away from contact at home and had a quick draw when runners tried to steal base. Brinkmeyer had 170 put outs and 33 assists over the season for a .971 fielding percentage. The Ducks pitching ace, Braeden Lawhon, was named to the Texas Sports Writer's Association Second Team as a designated hitter. Lawhon had a .345 batting average with 29 RBIs and 20 hits in 84 at bats. On the mound, Lawhon was equally dangerous with a 1.43 ERA and 108 strikeouts over 68 innings. Lawhon's performance also caught the eye of college scouts. He has signed a letter of intent with Tyler Junior College, making mom and dad proud. With all the state recognized players, it was only right for coach Kuhl to also honored. He was chosen to coach the 1A-3A South team at the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association All-Star game at Dell Diamond. His team won, giving the south their sixth win in a row in the All-Star game. With the 20-6 record this past season Kuhl has put together 392 wins in his career at Taylor, an impressive mark that explains why the Ducks are contenders every year.
