Coupland news By Susan Garry Pct. 4 commissioner to speak to CCO Monday The Coupland Civic Organization will meet Monday in St. Peter’s Church Fellowship Hall. Precinct 4 Williamson County Commissioner Ron Morrison will speak and hold a question and answer session. The public is invited to come and hear information about our county government. Refreshments will be served beginning at 6:30 p.m. and the program begins at 7 p.m. At the April meeting, attendees heard from Matt Kreidel, an area resident and sheriff’s deputy who presented the benefits of a Neighborhood Watch program and how to implement one. His office handles the DARE program and Crime Stoppers, in addition to Neighborhood Watch. “The program is neighbor watching after neighbor,” he said. “It provides extra eyes and ears for us.” Jack and Barbara Piper are coordinating the planning for a possible Coupland-area Neighborhood Watch. St. Peter’s Church On Sunday, St. Peter’s Church celebrated the confirmation of Cameron Dupy, Tessa Rumel, Hailey Kuntschick and Michael Wellings. St. Peter’s has begun its annual drive for the Rainbow of Caring Tools and Blankets Program that provides gifts of ordinary items to people in need around the world. The church notes that a contribution makes a nice gift in honor of Father’s Day. There is a donation box in the church narthex. For the church youth, registration is going on for Slumber Falls Camp in New Braunfels for church summer camp. The church office has registration forms. Planning continues for vacation Bible school, which will be held June 8-10 in the evenings for primary class through fifth grade. A group from St. Peter’s has begun its Alaska trip. Members will cruise along the Alaska coast and travel inland to see Denali National Park. St. Peter’s is currently gathering donations to replace the coverings that protect the stained glass windows in the sanctuary. To contribute or for further information on this project, call Sandra Wernli, (512) 856-2121, or Irene Florida, (512) 856-2846. Coupland School Marquita Ferguson’s third-grade students will hold their annual Living Museum in the school library on Thursday. As a history project, each student researches a historical figure and writes a narrative from that person’s point of view. On the day of the Living Museum, the students dress as their characters and recite their stories to museum visitors. Students, teachers, and families all enjoy this fun and educational event. A first-time event will be held Friday — the second through fourth grade dance, which will be held in the gym from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. Friday also is the middle school field trip to NASA. The schedule for the traditional Coupland end-of-school events includes the staff vs. student softball game Monday, the UIL celebration party at the home of Superintendent Gary Chandler on Wednesday, and the staff vs. student volleyball game on May 23. The annual Coupland Field Day is May 27, with Kindergarten through fourth grades participating in the morning. Students, teachers and families will have lunch on the grounds, followed by events for grades 5-8 in the afternoon. The final day of school is May 29, with the Awards Assembly at 8 a.m. Later in the morning, students will present the always entertaining annual talent show. Middle school commencement is May 29 at 7 p.m.
