Ducks, Hippos selected to All-District By Emily Grobe There should no longer be any doubts about the strength of central Texas baseball, specifically District 18-3A baseball. The District sent three teams to the playoffs that ended up knocking each other out, after Taylor and Hutto reached the Region III finals. Taylor advanced to the regional finals for the first time since 2002, after sweeping all of its series except the one against district champ Liberty Hill. The Ducks defeated the Panthers in a three-game series in the quarterfinal round, but were unable to overtake Hutto, who advanced to the state tournament for the first time in 10 years, in the regional finals. Hutto and Taylor had nearly identical records throughout the season. Taylor’s preseason record was 12-3-1, while Hutto entered district with an 11-1 record. Both teams finished district 5-3 and had matching 8-1 playoff records headed into the regional finals. Taylor finished their season 27-7, with a 9-3 playoff record, while Hutto went on to a 27-8 record, 10-3 in the playoffs. Six Taylor and six Hutto athletes were selected to the 2008 All-District team for their performance during district play this season.
