Carol Laurence’s piano students presented her 40th annual recital at the First Baptist Church June 1. Her current class includes students from Holland, Granger, Hutto, Thrall and Taylor, ranging from first grade to adults. The first group of performers included Mackenzie Towers, Joseph Kriczky, Olivia Ortega, Barbara Huffman, Savannah Carranza, Makayla Lopez, Andrew Hamende and Natalie Mokry. The second group of students included Brooke Vega, Sara-B Nira-Munoz, Gabrielle Hamende, Kevin Anderson, Daniel Duran, Kourtney Malish, Jessica Hernandez and Bland Davis. Other students included Matthew Ballard and Gerry Sutton. Senior students Malish and Hernandez were recognized for their accomplishments. Both will attend Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. Hernandez has been accepted into the music department and will major in music therapy. Hernandez composes contemporary Christian music and performs with the praise band and choir of First Baptist Church in Round Rock. Laurence closed the program with “Sing Your Praise to the Lord,” adapted from J.S. Bach’s Fugue No.2 in G minor, WTC Vol. I by Richard Mullins. Laurence presented trophies to students with outstanding practice times. First place was awarded to Mokry. Hamende won second place and Kriczky placed third. A fourth place ribbon was presented to Carranza, and Towers received honorable mention. In the second group, the first place trophy was awarded to Hernandez. Nira-Mufioz won second place and Duran placed third. A fourth place ribbon was presented to Anderson and Malish received honorable mention. A reception followed the performances in the church fellowship hall.
