Business After Hours

Mark Thompson with the investment company Edward Jones will host a Business After Hours Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. His office is located at 620 N. Main.

Deby Lannen at the Taylor Chamber of Commerce said please be sure to stop by to welcome Mark to town and do a little networking.


Donate for troops

Catholic Life Insurance is helping Taylor and Hutto collect donations for soldiers in the 1-4 Assault/Reconnaissance Battalion of the 4th Infantry Division, the unit adopted by the Eastern Williamson County communities.

Catholic Life Insurance President Paula Hajda and Secretary-Treasurer Irene Vrabel invite people to donate items to “send our troops a great care package.”

The unit’s wish list includes paperback books, puzzles, puzzle books, blank cards, playing cards, handy wipes, boot socks, batteries (AAA, AA and D), audio cassettes, CDs, VCR/DVD movies, eye drops, freeze-dried coffee, instant tea, sunscreen, items to give to Iraqi children such as school supplies, pencils, notebooks, hard candies, gum, caps, sports items including baseballs, volleyballs and soccer balls.

Donated items can be dropped off at Citizens National Bank.


Homecoming

Lorraine Hood-Jack will be home this weekend, worshipping at her church, Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church at the 11 a.m. service Sunday.

She also will be promoting her new music project titled “Free,” selling signed copies for $15 and donating $1 from each sale to the Portland Chapter of The Links, Inc., White Rose Educational Fund, The Vancouver Avenue 1st Baptist Church, The Portland Rose Festival Foundation, Court Scholarship Program, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Educational Advancement Foundation and Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.

A native of Taylor, Hood-Jack, 53, is the regional manager for a wholly owned General Electric Company subsidiary that creates massive turbines for power plants, refineries and ships. She currently lives in Portland, Ore., though she has done projects all over the west coast and outside the country.
