Recreation just up the road

Granger Lake, located about 10 miles northeast of Taylor, offers a number of recreational activities for individuals and families.

The lake, which was built to provide flood damage reduction, water conservation and fish and wildlife habitats, is a favorite among locals and out-of-towners who enjoy camping, fishing and boating at the lake’s many parks.

Campers can enjoy five different campsites, most of which offer covered picnic areas and accommodate either campers or tents.

The park is also home to hiking, biking and equestrian trails and is a great place to take pets to swim or get exercise.

The Comanche Bluff Hiking trail is designated as hike and bike while the Willis Creek Park Equestrian Trail can also accommodate horses.

There are five boat ramps at the lake, two in Wilson H. Fox Park and one each in Taylor, Willis Creek and Friendship parks.

Two developed swimming beaches offer individuals and families a relaxing and safe place to enjoy the water. The beach at Wilson H. Fox Park is open March 1 through Nov. 30, while the beach at Friendship Park is open April 1 though Sept. 30.

Among the many recreational opportunities, the lake is also home to a variety of birds, ducks, waterfowl, deer and hogs. Hunting is allowed during designated seasons.
