Taylor wins 3 on Day 1, drops 2 on Day 2

Taylor advanced to the gold bracket of the San Angelo tournament last weekend by winning their first three games, against El Paso Eastwood, Lubbock Monterey and Pecos High Schools, last Friday.

In the gold bracket, the Lady Ducks could not maintain their positive momentum from the day before, dropping a two-game match to Odessa and a three-game match to Sweetwater to finish the tournament 3-2.

Taylor started the tournament with a 25-16, 25-17 victory over the Eastwood Lady Troopers, followed by another two game victory against the Monterey Lady Plainsmen.

Pecos High School broke the Lady Ducks’ four game win streak by winning game one of their match 25-14, but Taylor was undeterred and came back to win the final two games 25-18 and 25-19 to complete a perfect Friday.

The gold bracket, featuring the top teams of the tournament, provided a higher degree of difficulty for the Lady Ducks, a challenge Taylor was unable to overcome.

Odessa High School was the first opponent for the Lady Ducks. The Lady Bronchos took the first game 25-20 and followed the first game win with a nearly identical 25-19 second game win to take the match.

The Lady Ducks rebounded from the Odessa loss to win the first game of their match against the Sweetwater Lady Mustangs 25-20.

The momentum could not be maintained, and Sweetwater finished off Taylor with two consecutive 25-16 game victories, completing a winless day for the Lady Ducks.

Coming up next for Taylor will be a 100-mile trek to Groesbeck to face the Lady Goats at 4 p.m. today.
