17,000 homes collapsed in China due to torrential rains, and more…

More than 1.76 million people have been affected by severe flooding in north China’s Shanxi Province, local media reported. Heavy rains made rescue efforts more difficult.

In China, torrential rains and floods swept through the northern provinces of Shanxi and Hebei. In Shanxi, nearly two million residents were hit by the storm and 17,000 homes collapsed. The floods also inundated 60 coal mines, threatening a disaster for China’s energy supply.
