A ‘real miracle’: a dog saves a wounded hiker in the Croatian mountains

The dog, named North, kept roving Garga Berkic warm after being injured last weekend after falling 150 meters in the Velepetite Mountains, near the Adriatic coast. The other two hikers who were with Berkic were unable to reach him and raised the alarm.

Rescuers struggled to reach humans and animals through snow, ice and trees torn apart by landslides.

The Croatian mountain rescue service HGSS wrote on Facebook that “the friendship and love between man and dog is endless.” The photo released by rescuers shows the dog curled up over the victim on a stretcher. “North wrapped himself around the victim and warmed him.”

Miracle

The three hikers, accompanied by the eight-month-old Alaskan Malamute, began their descent onto an ice cliff when the accident occurred near the mountain’s highest peak, which is about 1,800 metres.

“This dog is a real miracle, very friendly and probably loves people more than other dogs,” his owner told the Croatian newspaper. Jutarnji قائمة List.

Alaskan Malamutes are dogs with a fluffy coat that are known for their endurance.
