Ton Aires: “I really want to win here”
Kempenzoon Toon Aerts leads a home game in Loenhout. He’s back for the first time since 2018 – when he came third. Last year there was no cross, in 2019 he was at home with broken ribs.
The Baloise-Trek leader looks ahead: “Azencross is a race I would like to put my finger on, but probably not for tomorrow.”
“I’ve already started beeping once which is pretty cool. The swamp circuit can only play for Wout van Aert.”
He’s not top of the X²O Cup standings, Aerts is. “The start is going to be very important,” he says. “I want to gain seconds in the middle sprint and therefore gain some distance from the competition.”
