Amazon has opened its first Belgian delivery center in Antwerp. Currently, 43 people are employed, but this number may rise. The delivery center in Antwerp will receive parcels from large sorting centers in Germany and France, among other countries.
The new delivery center is located in the Blue Gate Business Park in the south of Antwerp. Previous reports state that the center will have 8,438 square meters, of which 5,764 square meters will be storage and 2,157 square meters will be office space. In addition, there will be a five-storey building for parking.
According to the Flemish media Amazon chose Antwerp due to its proximity to the port of Antwerp and the large number of consumers in the region. Flemish Prime Minister Jan Jambon was present at the opening and stated that Belgium could do more to attract e-commerce to Belgium.
Amazon Active in Belgium since October this year. The web store will then partially sell Belgian products. Prime streaming and delivery service will also be available to Belgians, at the same price as in the Netherlands. The Belgian Amazon is not Amazon.be, but amazon.com.be.
