American R&B singer Ari Lennox was arrested this morning at Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands, after she was angry because she said a KLM employee had racially categorized her. Marechaussee Police, in the Royal Netherlands, said the woman was arrested for being aggressive and intoxicated.
30-year-old Courtney Schnad Salter, as Lennox is really called, tweeted for the first time this morning from Schiphol: Hello Amsterdam. The tone of her messages quickly turned to anger. She wrote: “Racism. Amsterdam, I’m terrified. I was so happy to travel and this vicious woman… I’ve never experienced such blatant racism before.”
After that, the singer began her engagement with a lot of swear words, in which she said, among other things, that the security in Schiphol “hate black people.” Not only did she get angry online, but she also did it at the airport. The Royal Dutch Marechaussee intervened and arrested her, much to the artist’s dismay. “I am being arrested in Amsterdam because I am responding to a woman who calls me an ethnicity.”
Marechaussee confirms that the woman was arrested and notes her aggressive behaviour. It seemed that she was also drunk. “She didn’t want to calm down.” It is unclear how long Linux will remain in custody. KLM says it will find out exactly what happened. “Of course, we take this very seriously,” a company spokesperson said.
Ari Lennox – who has 1.8 million followers on Instagram and 700,000 on Twitter – is considered a talented singer and has been compared to Erykah Badu. Her biggest hit was “Shea Butter Baby”, which was viewed 49 million times on YouTube. Lennox toured with singer/rapper Lizzo, among others.
