“Words are not enough.” Hrori Virtosa, a 67-year-old construction worker, got off the train in Kherson on Saturday. For the first time since the Russians invaded Ukraine on February 24, he fled. He exclaimed visibly emotionally: “Long live Ukraine!” And he wasn’t alone in that.

Many citizens finally returned to the city, which was liberated on November 11th. Hundreds of people cheered as the train arrived and hugged their returning loved ones. “This is a symbol of freedom. Sheer luck,” said Maria Matsenko, 66, standing proudly with the Ukrainian flag.
