Dearmoon’s special moon mission has been cancelled

Dearmoon’s special moon mission has been cancelled

The Dearmoon moon mission, planned by Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa, has been cancelled. This will be the first private flight around the Moon.

Dearmon was announced in 2018. Maezawa will fly around the moon with a group of artists, including music maker Steve Aoki and YouTube astronaut Everyday. This had to happen with Starship, the fully reusable rocket that SpaceX is developing.

Everyone was given the opportunity to sign up for the task. More than one million people participated in the selection. Maezawa announced who he would choose at the end of 2022. The plan was to travel to the moon the following year, but that immediately seemed completely unrealistic. The Starship rocket to be used had not completed an unmanned test flight at the time of the announcement.

The spacecraft is not ready yet

In 2023, Project Dermon realized that a launch in 2023 was impossible. The mission was then postponed for the foreseeable future. Three test flights have now been conducted using the spacecraft, showing that the rocket still has a long way to go before it can make unmanned, let alone manned, flights into space. That’s why Dearmoon is here now Totally cancelled.

Meanwhile, SpaceX continues to take the necessary steps to send Starship into space. The company wants to conduct a fourth test flight in June. The goal this time is to prove that the rocket can return to Earth in a controlled manner. It also wants to make sure the rocket’s first stage, the Super Heavy Booster, can land smoothly in the ocean. This was not achieved during the previous test flight, but a number of other important milestones were achieved.
