Game Cupboard about Nintendo, Overwatch 2, and Fortnite

Game Cupboard about Nintendo, Overwatch 2, and Fortnite

Overall, the new Zelda gets a ten out of ten. Is this justified, if the game is something like Breath of the Wild? Are there enough differences? Is the game innovative enough? Hear the discussion in the new episode of Game Kast!

Overwatch 2 is not what it promised

The roadmap for the next three seasons of Overwatch 2 has been proposed and PvE is part of it. Only these story missions aren’t really what Blizzard promised in 2019. PvE development is less advanced than expected. So the developers were faced with a difficult choice: to continue working on it in the hope that someday it will be ready, or just release already completed tasks and focus on more live games. This choice hit fans hard. But now it looks like the multiplayer game will get some attention.

Good news for those who want to test out the Dead Space remake! You can now try a 90-minute trial for free on Steam. The Time Trial is a better option than the recovery system that’s been possible in Steam since 2015. Now you can just click Play Now, and then the game will fully download and your timer will track. There is no progress limit in the game, so you can play as much as you can in 90 minutes. For now, this option is only available for Dead Space, but perhaps Steam will encourage game developers to use this new feature.

Anyone who has played Fortnite since the latest new update may have spotted the new ranked mode. Since this week you can achieve the following ranks: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Elite, Hero and Unreal. At the moment you can only do this in Battle Royale: Solo, Duos and Squads or in Zero Build: duos. Each of the game modes has a separate rank. Ranking can be achieved through a combination of finishing matches and achieving elimination. There is also a leaderboard where you can see your ranking against the rest of the world.

Nintendo’s best release

To say that the world was collectively smitten with the new Zelda game is an understatement. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom sold more than 10 million copies in its first 3 days. It is the fastest selling Zelda game, the fastest selling Switch game in Europe and the fastest selling Nintendo game in Europe of all time. An amazing achievement for the Breath of the Wild series. And who knows, they might one day add “best selling movie adaptation” to that. Because in an interview, game producer Eiji Aonuma said that they are interested in making a Zelda movie or series. Years ago, there was talk of a live-action release, but those plans were scrapped. And with the popularity of Super Mario Bros. , the animated series may come sooner!

The European Union says yes to the Microsoft Activision Blizzard deal

A few weeks ago, the UK rejected Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Especially since their monopoly on cloud gaming will become very large. In the European Union they had the same train of thought. But they did suggest some remedies to keep the deal going. For example, consumers must have a free license for a game purchased from Microsoft in order to be able to stream it through any cloud streaming service. Regarding the Call of Duty games monopoly, the committee decided that it would not negatively affect competition. Because apparently Call of Duty is less popular in the European Union than in the rest of the world. Thus, Sony could still have a significant market position, even if the shooter becomes an Xbox exclusive.
