Apple mentioned when announcing New generations of iPad Pro That for the first time, users can record ProRes videos so that “content creators can now record, edit, and publish cinema-quality videos with a single device.” But for now, the new 12.9″ and 11″ models of the sixth and fourth generation iPad Pros don’t support the video compression format by default, according to Japanese company Macotakara.
The medium was able to record videos in the format using a third-party app, FiLMiC Pro. It’s not clear if this is a bug in the default camera app or if Apple intentionally omitted the option.
ProRes is an Apple-developed video format in which iOS 15.1 can be recorded by default on iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max, or the latest iPhone 14 equivalent. However, a variety of Apple devices can edit the file format using Sweetened Apple apps like iMovie and Final Cut Pro. The 11-inch iPad Pro of the first generation, iPad Air of the fifth generation, and the 12.9-inch iPad Pro of the third generation can handle ProRes. The new M2 iPad Pros will be the first iPads already included in the codec for high image quality.
