Portal writer wants to start Portal 3 because he’s getting older too

In addition to being an excellent puzzle game, Portal is also a series with an interesting story. It’s now been a long time since Portal 2 came out, but not everything has been told yet. This is evidenced by the words of the Portal Games co-writer, who is pushing (at Valve) to start a third game in the series.

In the Kiwi Talks Podcaster Erik Wolpaw says they should start on Portal 3. The main reason is simple, he’s getting bigger, and soon there will come a point where he and the others will be too old to start Portal 3. That’s why they have to do it now.

“We should start Portal 3. This is my letter to…whom. I’m no younger. We’ve come to a point where it’s crazy to think [that we’re] It will literally be too big to work on Gate 3, so we have to do it.”

Wolpaw will start a new portal at any time if it is up to him, because that’s what he wants. But the point is, he can’t do it alone, and so he’s urging Valve to take steps to make that a reality.

“Oh yeah, I would. I’ll be working on another portal in a second, but I can’t make it happen myself.”

Oh, I can defend that […] It might help a bit, but the problem is [Valve has] 300 employees and I don’t know exactly the breakdown – how many of them are on the production side vs. the commercial side of Steam vs. the legal side vs. anything else.

So there’s a huge opportunity cost to take 75 people and try to make a game.”
