Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will also travel to Hiroshima, Japan for a three-day summit of the G7, seven wealthy democracies and the European Union. This was reported by the American newspaper Bloomberg and the British newspaper Financial Times. ZA special session will be scheduled in Ukraine for Zelensky’s visit today. It was first announced that the Ukrainian president would address international leaders via video link.
The G7 consists of the United States, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and Canada. Also, leaders of countries like India, Brazil, Indonesia, South Korea, Australia, Vietnam have also been invited. It is seen as an attempt to align countries with the G7 that are reluctant on important issues such as the war in Ukraine.
The summit is expected to be dominated by discussions about two uninvited countries: Russia and China. Beijing has tense relations with the US and other G7 members, but is also an important trading partner for countries in the group. Consultation is expected on a collaborative approach.
Japan is taking unprecedented security measures ahead of the G7 summit. About 24,000 security forces will monitor the security of key attendees such as US President Joe Biden, his Brazilian counterpart Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
