Russell Crowe finally spoke in plain language about a possible role in the new ‘Gladiator’ movie | film

filmMany Gladiator fans are eagerly awaiting the sequel, which will be released in 2024. Of course, there is intense speculation as to whether there will be a role for Russell Crowe, who played Maximus in the first film. Crowe himself refutes all the rumors: “I will not be part of the new movie.”

So movie fans no longer have to hope that Maximus or Russell Crowe will return in a different role in the Gladiator sequel. Many assumed he would show up anyway, and one more rumor took hold when Crowe was seen with director Ridley Scott. “I’ve had some dinners with Ridley since this started, but we haven’t really talked about what he’s doing. But no, I’m not involved. Maximus has left the world,” Crowe said.

Crow wishes the new champion every success. “Aftersun” Oscar-nominated actor Paul Mescal will play Lucius, the son of Maximus’ love interest Lucilla, in the second “Gladiator” movie. “I hear a lot of good things about Paul and he’s a nice guy, so I wish him every success,” Crowe said.

These actors will also be added to the “Gladiator” cast: Barry Keoghan, who was praised for his supporting role in “The Banshees of Inisherin'”, and Denzel Washington. Gladiator was a huge commercial success at the time. The blockbuster grossed $460 million (€415 million) worldwide and won five Academy Awards.
