Because barely a week before the season finale for the series, it was announced that the series would end after only two seasons.

The reboot is based on the original series Gossip Girl, which ran for over six seasons between 2007 and 2012. With an all-new cast and a more similar story, the series was revived in 2021. But in vain. Now ending after two seasons on HBO Max.
Showrunner Josh Safran wrote on social media: “Here’s the gossip: It is with a heavy heart that I have to announce that Gossip Girl will end on HBO Max.” He continues, “The producers and I will be forever grateful to the network and the studio for their faith and support. We also thank the writers for their crafty brains and skillful talent, the cast for being the best collaborators and friends, and the crew for their hard work, dedication, and love of the project.”
But he’s not giving up: “We’re currently looking for another home for Gossip Girl. But in this climate, this can be an uphill battle. So if this is the end, at least we stopped at a high point. Thank you all for watching, and I hope you’re watching.” Final next week. xoxo.”
