Tadej Pogacar is back in Slovenia to help his fiancée, and in principle will drive Liège-Bastogne-Liège on Sunday

Tadej Pogacar (23 years old) sees his preparation for Liège-Bastogne-Liège hampered. The Slovenian favorite flew home to Slovenia this morning with his fiancée, Urska Siegart, 25, after receiving bad family news.

Both of them were really looking forward to it, Tadej Pojakar and Urska Siegart. After they rode Flèche Wallonne on Wednesday, Liège-Bastogne-Liège was also in the Slovenian couple’s cycling programme. Pogacar starts there as the outgoing winner as the top favourite, Zigart is a valet at Team BikeExchange. But due to family circumstances, Szygärt flew to Slovenia this morning. Team Emirates and Team BikeExchange both want to say it’s just about family circumstances. Siegart’s mother has cancer, but it’s not clear if that has anything to do with it. They had already postponed their planned wedding due to her illness.

Anyway, the fact that Pogacar is accompanying the fiancée to her family makes it clear that something serious is going on.

So the rider will not take part in Friday’s team poll, but will in principle return to Belgium on Saturday to take part in Liege-Bastogon-Liege on Sunday.
