Tesla's electric semi-truck travels 800 km on a battery

Tesla’s electric semi-truck travels 800 km on a battery

It was the Tesla Semi, after five years of waiting two weeks ago Then finally there. The first copies have been delivered. Before delivery, the electric van has been extensively tested.

With one of these demo videos, the brand is showing that the electric truck can drive more than 800 km on a battery charge. This while the truck is fully loaded and has a total curb weight of 36,741 kg.

To cover such a large distance with so much weight, the Tesla Semi has a 1000 kWh battery pack on board. To charge this large battery, charging technology is used that can handle up to 1 megawatt. Elon Musk’s company calls the chargers “Tesla Megachargers”. With this charger, the electric truck is charged to 70 percent in 30 minutes.

The Semi’s battery pack is linked to three electric motors, just like the Tesla Model S and X plaid. These provide a power of 1000 horsepower. All three electric truck motors are not used all the time. Two power sources are tasked with providing as much torque as possible when the truck needs it, for example when accelerating at a traffic light. Later, on the highway, these two motors are switched off to drive as efficiently as possible with the other electric motor.

When the truck is fully loaded, it weighs 36,741 kg. It is estimated that the truck weighs somewhere around 12,000 kilograms unloaded. The price of the car is also unknown. Previously, the price of $ 200,000 was mentioned.
