The discovery of camera images of the missing Natasha (28), the ambassador of Belgium who traveled to the place of disappearance

In Peru, the police discovered video images showing Natasha de Crombroughi (28). It is about the young woman’s arrival in Cabanaconde, where she spent the night in a hostel before going on a trip. It has been missing ever since. Meanwhile, Belgium’s ambassador to Peru, Marc van de Vreken, traveled to the venue.

Natasha de Crombroughi has been missing for three weeks. The woman set off from Brussels for a trip through the Colca Strait on Monday, January 24, and no one has heard from her since. The owner of the inn where Natasha spent the night before her disappearance says the lawyer had intended to return in five days. “I asked if she could leave her backpack here,” said the woman.

However, the inn in question, La Estancia, was not the first place Natasha went to. Earlier that day, she tried to arrange a one night stay at Hotel Pachamama, but was unable to stay there due to renovations. The police checked photos from the security cameras of this hotel, which actually show Natasha entering the hotel on January 23. Barely ten minutes later, she turned back outside in search of another place. The photos clearly show that Natasha is out on her own and is wearing her big blue backpack.

Natasha had later knocked on the door of the Mirko House Hotel, where she could not find shelter due to the Covid-19 infection. There I was advised to visit La Estancia, where I eventually managed to get a room.

Belgium’s ambassador to Peru, Marc van de Vreken, is now in Cabanaconde. Our embassy maintains contact with local authorities, police services and rescue workers. “A team of professional guides continues to search,” foreign affairs spokeswoman Mary Churchill said. “Belgian and Peruvian police forces and judicial authorities are working together, and the Belgian honorary consul on the ground has activated the network and connections with other European sites on the ground.”

The parents of the missing Belgian, who have been in Peru for a week, are accompanied by a member of the Belgian embassy.

Natasha de Crombroughi has been missing since January 24. That day, she would leave an inn in the village of Cabanaconde for a trek through the Colca Valley, a deep and wide gorge in the south of the country. According to Noticias del Perú y el Mundo, about 75 officers are now searching for the woman. Specialist agents also came from other regions with more experience in hard-to-reach areas and mountainous landscapes.

Meanwhile, rescuers searched 90 percent of the hiking trails that stretch across the western part of the Colca Valley, between Cabanaconde and Sangal village, according to news site InfoBay. Sangal, nicknamed “The Oasis,” is a haven for hikers. And the Peruvian news agency Andina reported, before leaving the hostel, the young woman indicated her desire to go there.

Our country’s Federal Prosecutor’s Office will soon decide whether to send Belgian agents to the region to continue searching the site.
