Friday is the climax day for Remco Evenepoel. There is a crucial time trial on the programme.
Evenepoel has had an excellent ride so far and is in pole position to finish on the podium in Nice, or even do better. In the 25km time trial, he is already the favourite and has the chance to sneak in close to leader Tadej Pogacar.
There is one small or even big problem though. The world time trial champion leads the youth classification and is therefore not allowed to ride in his rainbow suit from team sponsor Castelli. Evenepoel is obliged to race against time in a white time trial suit from the organisation.
Time trial lawsuit faster
There is a huge difference in quality between the organisation’s kit and the team’s kit. Their time trial suit is more aerodynamic which means Evenepoel will lose crucial seconds in the battle for the round.
Their top striker, Tadej Pogacar, has the same problem as the yellow jersey wearer. Defending champion Jonas Vingegaard can wear his own kit (and weird helmet) tomorrow.
Santini
The Soudal camp of the Quick Step has heard that fortunately the loss of seconds will remain limited. The quality of the Tour’s suits has improved significantly since the arrival of clothing sponsor Santini (until 2022 this was Le Coq Sportif).
