When you travel to an EU country, you benefit from the elimination of roaming costs. Since 2017, your carrier hasn’t charged you anything extra if you use mobile data within the EU, or call/text a Belgian number that’s also connected to a European network. bee Proximus Most often you can easily go out with a Daily Roaming Pass, which allows you to call, text or surf the Internet outside the EU depending on your package in Belgium. The daily roaming card is valid for 24 hours and costs €5.95 for countries in Zone A (which contains the most popular holiday destinations for Belgians) or €11.95 for less popular countries. As a Proximus customer, you can activate your Pass automatically when you try to use data or minutes at your destination, or send more than two text messages every 24 hours. You can activate the ticket ten times a month, after which it will remain active without having to pay for the cost again.

With Internet World you can surf in 24 countries outside Europe for €10 (250MB) or €20 (600MB), and with Bellen World you can call in those countries for 100 minutes for €10 or 250 minutes for €20. You must activate the function in your client area. For other countries, you pay standard rates.

bee orange Choose from three passes. The cheapest is the Top Destinations data card, with which you pay €12 per month to use 500MB on popular non-European travel destinations. With the Best Destinations Plus Pass, you pay €20 for 1GB of mobile data, 1,000 minutes, and 1,000 text messages in those countries. You need a World Plus Pass in the rest of the world. For 110 euros per month you get 120 call minutes, 120 text messages and 250MB. Just like with Proximus, you should check which region your travel destination is from to determine which pass you need.

When traveling outside Europe your provider will block your connection if you are using mobile data for €60.50. That’s a good thing, because you get to that amount pretty quickly. The standard rates for calling minutes and data are very high. Every time you send UNBLOCK to 8989, you can spend another €60.50.

Whatever your subscription, with Telenet, Youfone, edpnet Mobile, Mobile Vikings and hy!-telecom you always pay standard costs for roaming outside the EU. Exact fares again depend on the ‘region’ in which your destination is located.

Edpnet Mobile and Mobile Vikings have chosen not to make mobile data available outside the EU, so you don’t suddenly face a high bill. Scarlet’s Roam Like Home allows you to use your package in Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Iceland, but outside of that you can fall back on standard fares.
