A US judge on Thursday overturned former President Donald Trump’s appointment of an independent judge. It allows the US Department of Justice to examine documents seized during an August raid at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort.
The decision has caused a huge backlash for Trump. A lawyer was appointed at his request. This one Special Master He will examine the items found during the home inspection. As a result, documents may be kept away from the government.
A less conservative judge approved Trump’s request for an independent judge in September. The US Court of Appeals has now overturned that decision. According to the court, nowhere in the law does it say that anyone can block a government investigation after a search, not even a former president.
The criminal investigation into Trump includes whether classified documents were withheld and whether efforts were made to subvert the federal investigation. A legal battle has erupted since the search in Florida in early August. The FBI found more than 11,000 government documents.
