The two Belgians arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of involvement in the Tefaf art theft have been released. They seem to have nothing to do with theft.
The duo, who are aged 22 and 26, had their hands tied on Tuesday after they acted suspiciously at Koning Willem Alexandertonel in Maastricht. The French-speaking Belgians had parked there and got off. At that time, the investigation services were conducting a hunt for criminals who violently robbed the jeweler Symbolic & Chase at the Tefaf art gallery.
The two were questioned for hours on Tuesday evening, but nothing indicated actual involvement in the jewelry theft, attorneys Serge Winning and Stegen van Meerm now say.
This means that the perpetrators are not currently tracked down. However, the police hoped that the two Belgians would be able to quickly catch the rest of the gang.
A very large amount of money was taken during the robbery. The perpetrators stole the diamonds, among other things.
