The third round of talks between Russia and Ukraine concluded just before 7 p.m. Belgian time on Monday, after about three hours of negotiations. After that, the Ukrainian delegation saw “little progress” regarding evacuation arrangements. Russia hopes that the upcoming talks will make a real breakthrough.
This was reported by the Russian state news agency TASS, whose headquarters is the Russian Embassy in Belarus.
According to Mikhailo Podoljak, who will be joining Ukraine, “slight progress” has been made on the humanitarian corridors. Agreements had already been made on this subject, but each time it turned out that the flight of civilians from the besieged city was very dangerous. The promised cease-fire was not always implemented. It also described Ukraine earlier today as “immoral” that the corridors lead directly to Russia or Belarus.
Moreover, according to Podoljak, little progress has been made.
The Russians, too, were not satisfied after that. There the talks appeared to “not live up to Moscow’s expectations”. Russia’s chief negotiator Vladimir Medinsky said in a conversation with the official Rossiya 24 station that he hopes to achieve a greater breakthrough next time.
He did not announce when the negotiations would resume.
New ceasefire
On Monday evening, Moscow announced the resumption of a temporary ceasefire at 10 a.m. local time on Tuesday morning, with the aim of allowing civilians to leave safely. It may then become clear how much real progress has been made in today’s discussions.
