Europe continues to turn dark red on the new Corona map of the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC). Only Romania, three regions of Italy and a few overseas regions are not colored red (dark). Belgium will remain dark red.

The European Center for Disease Control and Prevention publishes a color-coded European Corona map every Thursday, based on the number of infections and the percentage of positive tests in the past 14 days. This indicates that the lion’s share of the European continent continues to be red (dark). This is the case, among others, for Belgium, the Netherlands, France (dark red), Germany, Spain and Poland (largely dark red).

The only bright spots are Romania, which turns very orange and also has one green area, and Italy, where Sardinia, Puglia and Molise turn orange. The overseas territories of Guadeloupe, Saint Martin and Mayotte (both France) and the Azores (Portugal) are still orange.

requirements

A country or region is given red color if the 14-day infection rate, the number of new cases per 100,000 population, exceeds 75, and the positivity rate is above 4 percent. The other condition for getting red is if the incidence is above 200 regardless of the percentage of positivity. The dark red color means that there are more than 500 new infections per 100,000 residents in two weeks.

The color codes are an indication for EU member states to impose conditions on travelers, such as mandatory quarantine or submitting negative tests. There are recommendations from the European Union, but member states ultimately decide for themselves what conditions to impose or not to impose on people returning from green, orange or red areas. Colors are also taken into account when travelers enter their country.

In Belgium, red in an EU country means that unvaccinated people of 12 years of age who do not have a take-back certificate must be tested if they travel (return) from that area to Belgium. The Belgian government implements new color codes every Saturday.
