US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan has warned Russia that it could expect massive retaliation from NATO member states if it decides to attack Poland.

Sullivan has retaliated against a Russian attack on a Ukrainian military base 25 kilometers from the Polish border. Sullivan stressed that “the attack on NATO territory activates Section 5” and that “the combined forces of NATO member states will be mobilized to retaliate.” Sullivan said, however, that the US military would not intervene directly in Ukraine to avoid a direct confrontation with Russia.
