On Sept. 11, KP’s family reported missing her because they had not asked her for two weeks. Police determined Brian had already returned to their home in North Harbor on Sept. 1, and the couple shared it with Brian’s parents. However, he and his family refused to talk to police about KP’s disappearance. On Friday evening, Bryan’s family contacted detectives for the first time because they said they had not seen him since Sept. 14.
The last time KP’s family spoke to her was on August 24. The young woman told her mother that they were going to Grand Dayton National Park in northwest Wyoming. Police are investigating. Investigators have now announced that the body of a young woman found in National Park has been found to match KP Petito’s description.
Still not 100 percent sure. “The similarities have been found, but the medical and legal identity has not yet been formalized,” said Charles Jones, an FBI detective involved in the investigation. “It was announced to her family. It was an incredibly difficult time for her family and friends.”
The body is said to have been found by investigators in a remote area of the Bridger-Teton National Forest, near the camp area. Nothing is known about the circumstances under which the body was found. The cause of death has not yet been determined.
