A 14-year-old girl dies after crashing into a tree while skiing in Tyrol | outside

A 14-year-old girl died as a result of a skiing accident in the Rossshut ski area in Seefeld, in the Austrian state of Tyrol. The girl from Lower Austria suddenly left the track and hit her head on a tree. It didn't take long for her 57-year-old father to find her. All help came too late for the girl, as she died at the scene.

The 14-year-old, who according to police is a good skier and familiar with the area, skied down a blue slope with her father on Wednesday around 2 p.m. The 57-year-old father took charge, so he did not see the serious accident involving his daughter.

The father was waiting at the bottom of the ski lift when he realized his daughter could no longer be found. Finally, he took the elevator back to the beginning of the descent to search for his daughter. “At the lowest part of the descent, at an altitude of approximately 1,310 metres, he eventually found his daughter lying motionless next to a tree,” the police report said.

The father immediately administered first aid and began CPR with the help of other skiers. Passersby called emergency services. The rescue team, emergency doctor and emergency helicopter quickly arrived at the scene and continued resuscitation efforts, but to no avail. The 14-year-old girl died at the scene.

Girl wearing a ski helmet

The exact cause of the accident remains unclear. The police explained: “Based on the evidence at the scene, it can be assumed that the girl left the lane for an unexplained reason and hit her head on a tree.” Despite wearing a ski helmet, she was likely fatally injured.
