to explain: Many cars, especially of the Citroën and Peugeot brands, receive an error message about the operation of the AdBlue system. This system ensures that the emission of harmful nitrogen oxides is reduced. Owners who eventually receive this error message will not be able to start their vehicle. The solution proposed by the brands is to replace the reservoir in the system. But this is a rather expensive operation: people talk about 1,200 euros.

  • De Jong: “This is a manufacturing defect. In an initial response from the brands, it was said that cars still under warranty would be repaired. In Citroën and Peugeot this is five years and less than 150,000 kilometers. These brands also said that a solution was being sought , so that there is a partial intervention. But this is still a work in progress, because it is a fairly recent problem.”
  • “I got an error message. In principle, you can drive without AdBlue because it simply has to purify emissions. But there is also an obligation: after a number of reports you can no longer start the car, otherwise many people simply drive without AdBlue, which happened in As a result, you have such a problem that you have to go to the garage to fix it.”
  • Replacing everything will cost between 1,000 and 1,200 euros. In fact, it is a manufacturing defect that has already been acknowledged by the brands. It is still under investigation. But there may soon be a solution. I assume manufacturers will use new suppliers or new parts,” explains De Jong.
