Claude Lombard dies (76), singer of the 1968 Belgian Song Contest | showbiz

Claude Lombard was born in Etterbeek in 1945 and had a musical childhood. Her mother Claude Alex caused a stir as a nightclub singer. Claude learned to play the piano and guitar at an early age. This also led to her own musical career, which began mainly in Wallonia: between 1986 and 1992 she recorded no less than 50 recordings. Recently, the singer presented the youth program “Contrastes” and regularly appeared on stage with the BRT orchestra.

In 1968, Lombard participated in the pre-selections for the Eurovision Song Contest. There were nine other candidates who wanted to represent our country in the thirteenth edition of the Song Contest, which took place on April 6 in London. With her song Quand tu reviendras, she took seventh place. There were seventeen participants in total.

Claude Lombard also had her merits as a voice actress. Over the years, she could be heard in the cinema in many films: she provided the voices for “Beauty and The Beast”, “Cinderella”, “Moana”, “Frozen” I and II. Such success became that in 2019 followed a whole album full of readable texts.

In addition to her children’s successes, singer Charles Aznavour regularly accompanied on stage and became one of her loyal supporters. They first appeared on stage together in the early 1980s, and their collaboration lasted until his death in 2018.
