Today Kruidvat is replacing its popular candy bags with rectangular paper bags. The paper bags are part of the store's sustainability goals. For example, they use less plastic for their own brand products, or choose recycled plastic. Not only do they want to make their products sustainable, the packaging must now be as environmentally friendly as possible.

Kruidvat immediately addresses one of its biggest plastic problems with candy bags. The supermarket chain promises to avoid 32,000 kilograms of plastic every year. “If you collate all the plastic candy bags we replace every year, they will reach a range of 4,000 kilometres,” says Leendert van Bergijk, sustainability manager at Kruidvat.

Leendert van Bergijk continues, saying: “With this new step, we contribute to reducing the use of plastic and the amount of plastic waste in Belgium and the Netherlands.” The new bag is not only appearing in our country: customers in the Netherlands are also seeing the new paper versions appear today.
