Donnie M. The 22-year-old from the Dutch town of Jilin is suspected of murdering 9-year-old Gino. The judge in Maastricht just announced this. His pretrial detention was extended by two weeks. Meanwhile, the police are investigating whether there are more suspects who may have been involved in the kidnapping and murder of the boy.
Police are now looking for photos of the car in the case:
Last night, police requested “special cooperation” from the public to obtain photographs in the investigation into Gino’s death. Many images are now received from dashcams and other image carriers. Specifically, this relates to photos that show a blue Volkswagen Lobo. “Reactions are coming, investigators are busy analyzing the images and assessing their value,” a Dutch police spokeswoman told our colleagues at Algemeen Dagblad (AD).
These are photos of the highway taken on Wednesday, June 1, between 6.50 pm and 7.30 pm, the moment Gino disappeared. In addition, specific requests are being made for photos of the pool perimeter where the 9-year-old boy’s scooter was found.
The disappearance of 9-year-old Gino
Gino was last seen on a football field in Kerkrade on Wednesday night, where he was playing football with some other kids. It has been missing since then. He was staying with his sister in Kerkrade for a week because his mother was ill in Maastricht and he could not stay there. After his disappearance, the police sounded the alarm for fear of a crime. Several volunteers began major searches in Kerkrade and in Landgraaf where a scooter very similar to the scooter Gino was with was found shortly before his disappearance.
During these searches, items possibly belonging to Gino were also found. The search into this has contributed to finding the suspect, as it was revealed Saturday during a press conference held by the police and the judiciary in Maastricht, among others.
The man from Jilin was arrested early Saturday morning and reported to the police where Jino’s body was. Then the officers found the body in a garden behind a burning house, near the apartment where M. M is subject to restrictions, which means that he is only allowed to speak with his lawyer and that all parties involved (police, justice and lawyer) are silent to the outside world. At the age of 17, the suspect had already been convicted of serious abuse and assault of a boy.
