The ventilation systems in the car park at Pieter Vreedeplein in Tilburg will be replaced before the end of this year. On Saturday several people got sick when they were stuck in the garage for too long. Although the ventilation was on, it did not prevent exhaust fumes from remaining in the room.
Things got worse last Saturday when traffic stopped outside the parking garage. Normally, Tilburg municipality would call traffic controllers to direct traffic in the right direction, but due to a misunderstanding that didn’t happen on Saturday afternoon.

However, the ventilation system was already in operation, says a municipality spokesperson. “Full speed. But because of the large number of vehicles that stopped with the engine running, problems arose.”
But, she adds, the ventilation system won’t last long. “It must be replaced. Before the end of this year.”
