Johnson’s wife, Carrie Johnson, was said to have helped organize a surprise meeting for the prime minister on June 19 shortly after 2pm, according to an ITV News report on power insiders. Nine days ago, however, Johnson called on residents to “be careful and respect the rules that are supposed to keep us all safe.” Indoor gatherings were out of the question, and people were only allowed to meet outside in groups of no more than six people.
About 30 people attended the Downing Street party, according to ITV, after Johnson returned from a visit to a school in Hertfordshire. The meeting would have taken about 20 to 30 minutes.

Work that day met briefly in the Cabinet Room after a meeting to wish the Prime Minister a happy birthday. “There were less than ten minutes left,” Johnson’s government said in a statement.
ITV also reported that Johnson greeted friends at his official residence later in the evening. Johnson’s government denied this, stating that only a limited number of family members were received abroad.
