British Pat, 70, was forced to leave her home at the end of December after rats settled there. The entire house has been taken over by mold which can be found on the walls and even in the bed. But that was beyond Pat's neighbors. They raised about 140 thousand euros and completely renovated the house.
Pat had to move out of her home when she became chronically ill from mold and damp in the walls. The heating in her Swindon home broke down two years ago and there was only electricity in two rooms. Her neighbors took matters into their own hands and, in collaboration with several companies, transformed the house into a clean and safe environment for Pat. It got a new boiler, new furniture, the damp problem was addressed and pest control put an end to the rat plague.
More than 150 local residents and seventy businesses helped Pat find a new home. It was her friend Janet who started the whole crowdfunding process when she found out what Pat's house looked like. “Since Corona, she no longer let me in until she suddenly asked me to help her clean. I thought it was strange at first. “When I set foot in the house, I immediately knew that she had to get out of there as quickly as possible,” Pat admitted. She feels ashamed of this situation, but in the meantime she cannot believe her happiness. She says: “I want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart.”
