PSV lose 2-1 to Benfica but can be brave from a good second half | sports

Champions LeagueBenfica beat PSV Eindhoven 2-1 in the first leg of the last preliminary round of the Champions League. The Dutch had a tough time before the break and entered the first half with a 2-0 delay. But PSV dominated the second half, which, thanks to the equalizer, could still dream of the group stage. There are no citizens at the start of the match between Benfica and PSV Eindhoven. Jan Vertonghen is injured and not part of the home team, Jorbe Vertonghen started on the bench with the Dutch. Roman Yarmacuk was the former Gent striker at the base in Benfica.

The Ukrainian striker also quickly handed over his business card. Ten minutes later, Rafa Silva made his way to the opening goal with a cunning cross. The Portuguese winger played in a controlled manner and put 1-0 up in the corner.

After that, the home team left the lead to PSV Eindhoven, but that was not threatened for long. After some hesitant combinations, the Dutch found the solution and were able to use the space at the back of Benfica’s defense at great depth. Visitors even scored via Eran Zahavi, but the intrusion threw a wrench in the works.

Just before the end of the first half, another hit for PSV followed. A carrom corner kick landed at the feet of Julian Weigl, who simply doubled Benfica’s lead.

But the visitors showed their resilience after the break. Cody Jako scored the connecting goal at the start of the second half. Then Eindhoven took charge firmly, and Benfica barely came out. But registration is no longer possible for the Dutch. They lacked competence and repeatedly faced the excellent Odyssey Flashodemos against the home side’s goal.

Jorpi Vertisen joined PSV Eindhoven a few minutes before the end, who can still dream of the group stage. In the second half, he proved that he can more than keep up with Benfica. Unfortunately for the Dutch, away goals are no longer considered a “dual”. While a 1-0 win in next Tuesday’s second leg would be enough to advance, this now results in extensions.
