Putin heads to an international summit in China next week outside

Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to travel to China next week. The country is scheduled to hold a new third summit on October 17-18 on the New Silk Road, a massive international infrastructure project.

There will be many foreign guests, including President Putin. Last month, during the Chinese Foreign Minister’s visit to Moscow, he confirmed his desire to participate. He may also visit Kyrgyzstan on Thursday, where a meeting of the Commonwealth of Independent States, a reunification of former Soviet states, will be held. Local media reported that Putin will hold a bilateral meeting with President Sadr Japarov.

The previous summit of the New Silk Road dates back to 2019. The project envisages the construction of roads, railways, bridges and ports in several Central Asian and European countries, as well as the construction of power plants.

For Putin, it is the first trip abroad since the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant against him in March in the context of the war in Ukraine. But the possibility of his arrest and extradition is non-existent, because Kyrgyzstan and China have not signed the Rome Statute of the Criminal Court.
