Reuters: The United States allows companies to supply Huawei with auto parts chips

The companies are said to have received permission from the United States to supply chips to Huawei for auto parts. These are chipsets for displays and sensors, among other things. These chips are said to be less advanced and therefore not covered by the US trade embargo.

Reuters writes based on anonymous sources The US government has approved several requests in recent months to be able to supply chips to Huawei. These chips are for Huawei’s automotive components division, a branch that will grow since the trade ban imposed on Huawei.

Cars may contain 5G network equipment, which means that cars will also fall under this ban. However, automotive chips are seen as less advanced, which would be the reason why companies get permission to supply these chips to Huawei.

The deals are said to be worth hundreds of millions of dollars. The US Government does not provide information about which chips may or may not be provided. Huawei also did not want to provide additional information on this topic, but says it is positioning itself as a new supplier of “smart technology”.
