At Roma, they cannot coexist with a midfield role in Serie A. Coach Jose Mourinho must leave the Italian capital. Later, Romelu Lukaku's side announced that club icon Daniele De Rossi had signed a contract until the end of the season.
Jose Mourinho is no longer the coach of Roma. Sunday's defeat against Milan (3-1) in the league was the straw that broke the camel's back.
Halfway through the competition, Roma finished only ninth in Serie A. In the Europa League, the club had to settle for second place in the groups, behind Slavia Prague.
These are not the results they have in mind in the Italian capital. After two and a half years, Roma bid farewell to Mourinho, who won one trophy: the Conference League in the 2021-2022 season. At the end of last season, he lost the Europa League final to Sevilla in Budapest.
Immediate change is necessary.

“At Roma, we would like to thank Jose Mourinho for the passion and commitment he has always shown,” said Dan and Ryan Friedkin, owners of the American club.
“However, we believe that for the best interest of the club, immediate change is necessary,” he added.
It is not yet clear who should pull the team out of its slump.
Roma are the club of Romelu Lukaku's Red Devil, and he has scored 14 goals so far this season: 8 in Serie A, 5 in the Europa League and 1 in the Cup.
Daniele De Rossi takes charge
Roma are turning to a very familiar face to get the team back on track. Club legend Daniele De Rossi has signed a contract until the end of the season. Depending on the success, it will be determined whether the agreement will be extended or not.
De Rossi, 40, played for Roma for 17 years and ended his career at Boca Juniors in Argentina. From January 2022 to October he was assistant to the Italian national team.
The former midfielder took up his first real job as head coach of second division club SPAL. De Rossi persuaded Radja Nainggolan, among others, to help him, but this was by no means successful.
