Two six- and eight-year-old boys managed to park safely in Texas after their father was killed behind the wheel.
A 29-year-old man was driving on Interstate 10 in Houston with his two sons Friday night when he was injured around 10:30 p.m. A spokesman for the Houston Police Department told the US media.
At first the kids thought that someone had thrown a stone at their car. As their father shriveled, they drove their SUV, the Toyota Sequoia, off the highway. They managed to park the car in a parking lot, where they called for help. A woman called the emergency services.
The father was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene. His sons were unharmed.
According to police, it remains unclear whether the man was a deliberate target of a shooting or a traffic assault, or if there was another motive. A search is underway for a white car in connection with the accident and police are asking witnesses to provide information while video footage from the motorway is being examined. A reward of A$10,000 will be offered for tips leading to the shooter’s arrest.
