Skiers give way to skiers in Mechelen, college graduation – Antwerp Persboro

Michelin – From today you can wear snowshoes at ISCM. The rink allowed the snow to thaw before the summer holidays, and the concrete rink was left empty for two months. You can go there every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday for the roller skating, with a disco night on Friday. On other days, the track is available for event rentals. The pop-up will run through Friday, July 21st.

Last week the Mechelen Ski Center (ISCM) thawed before the summer holidays until Sunday 30 July. So skating is no longer possible next to the cinema, but the space with a concrete track offers other possibilities. Kathleen Gerts, Director of ISCM: ‘The summer pop-up skating rink sounded like a great idea to us. There is already a concrete path that is perfect as a surface. Snowboarding is also close to skiing in terms of technique, so we also make a link with the ski season. With our program we want to attract children, young people and adults alike. For the last set, we’ll kick off the night with a “Back to the 80’s 90’s party” with a live DJ. During the ceremonial opening this afternoon, young skaters had the opportunity to get a taste of the sport. After all, the ISCM invited the students to lead in the pop-up arena. About 40 students from De Bel and Ter Elst hitched their skis. Then it was the turn of the common people.

Mayor Alexander Vandersmissen (Open Vld): “As a city, we cannot help but encourage these pop-up initiatives. On the one hand, ISCM guarantees a creative and exemplary interpretation of their infrastructure, which is otherwise empty. On the other hand, it also offers an alternative that facilitates Accessible and nostalgic for skating for all ages The offer in Flanders is not very big, so Mechelen will be a hotspot for skating for 2 months You can wear ice skates at ISCM until July 21 You can rent them or bring your own You will take the rink then A short break and it will start again on July 31st with the snow season. https://iscm.be/nl/home/

Traditionally, the weekly college of the mayor and aldermen is held on Mondays in the Huis van de Mechelaar. But this will change from Monday 5th June. Since then, the city council meets once a month at a location in one of the neighborhoods and villages. In this way, the city council takes the opportunity to go out into the neighborhoods and villages and engage in dialogue with the local population.

Rena Rabo Nkandu (Gruene), Alderman to participate: “Starting Monday, June 5, we will start with a modified concept. We are returning to neighborhoods and villages. The aim is to visit all villages this year. The formula has been modified. For example, we do not choose to receive residents in Classic theater as in the past, but locals are given the opportunity to have a very informal, interactive conversation with the mayor and aldermen about topics they consider important.. A quick date, as it were.

Prior to the speed date, attendees will receive a short presentation based on the two-part information booklet on the policy that has been sent to every Mechelen resident in recent weeks. Prior to the speed date, the town council also takes the time to visit a local business and therefore will also hold its weekly meeting on site in one of the community or village halls.

Lecture on the go will begin at LIST. All Leestenaars also received an invitation in the mailbox for this. In September it was Woolm’s turn. The board then moves on to Hombeek, Heffen, and finally Battel. (EM/Photo City of Mechelen)
