During a European Women’s Cup match between Kangaroo Mechelen and Besiktas, Turkish fans raised a controversial banner.
““Stop doing what Hitler did to you.”He read the sign that appeared in the second half of the game. “Stop doing what Hitler did to you.” A reference to the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
There was no performance for several minutes and the Turkish fans were able to express their message. The match witnessed a sporting victory in which the home team won 83-74. Mechelen plays its home games at the Antwerp Giants’ Heylen Vastgoed Basket Campus.
After the match, a number of journalists were attacked. The police were called to calm the gloomy atmosphere in cooperation with security personnel. Outside, there was a brief disturbance with the police.
