Switzerland organizes a peace summit on Ukraine at the request of Kiev outside

Switzerland and Ukraine want to organize a peace summit at the highest level. This was announced by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his Swiss counterpart Viola Amherd on Monday during a press conference in Bern. The two countries will begin preparations soon, but a date has not been set for the summit yet.

Zelensky announced on Monday that Russia would not be invited to the summit. Zelensky said that all countries that support Ukraine's territorial integrity are welcome, expressing his hope that countries in Africa, South America and Asia will also participate. He mentioned China in particular. He added: “It is important for us to show that the whole world is against Russian aggression, and that the whole world supports a just peace.”

The summit will be organized according to the formula of the four previous peace conferences that were held since the spring of 2023 in Denmark, Saudi Arabia, Malta, and in Davos, where another summit was held on Sunday with the participation of 83 countries and international organizations.

After his visit to Bern, Zelensky will travel to Davos, where he will participate in the World Economic Forum.

Switzerland has always taken a clearly neutral military stance since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The country therefore refuses to send weapons to Kiev and has not given other countries permission to send Swiss-made weapons. Bern joined international sanctions against Russia, and Zelensky also praised the humanitarian support provided by Switzerland on Monday.
