The site of the new construction festival Reitdiep Groningen: pavilion for apartments and restaurants

In consultation with local residents, the municipality of Groningen has designed an apartment complex on the so-called festival site in Reitdiep. The new layout, which was introduced earlier this month, will include social rental apartments and private rental apartments, as well as a catering suite.

This section is made possible in part by:

A few years ago, in 2018, Groningen City Council established the frameworks that the design must meet.

Then a group of neighborhood residents began working with the developer, architect, and municipality, led by an outside discussion leader, to develop a plan.

This plan is now ready. There will be 15 social rental apartments and 66 medium and private rental apartments with balcony.

Aldermann Roeland van der Schaaf (PvdA) is happy with the result, he says on the Groningen municipality’s website. We value the constructive attitude and input of all participants during this sometimes complex process. The results were impressive. Thanks to the efforts of this group, the design has become better and more beautiful.

Separate catering suite

In the latest design, 15 social rental apartments and 66 rental apartments for the medium and private sectors will be built. All of these apartments have a balcony.

In addition, a separate catering suite is being developed with a terrace on the parking deck with a view of the harbor. The parking will have a deck (live), with driveways, plenty of green space, children’s play facilities and water storage space.

The coveted social space (about 70 square metres) from the co-creation and neighborhood is combined with the catering in the suite. A number of residents, along with a catering operator, will be looking for what best suits this space. Together they look at how the space can be used sustainably for different neighborhood activities.
